Vlaams Blok members attack socialists in Dilbeek (Belgium)

On Sunday morning about 20 anti-fascists held a protest outside a meeting hall owned by the village of Dilbeek (near Brussels) where the Vlaams Blok had a meeting with its leader Filip Dewinter speaking. When the anti-fascists arrived they were 'welcomed' by a group of Vlaams Blok militants led by their local MP Jurgen Ceder. Soon a few of them started to attack us physically. Two of the anti-fascists were hit in their face and they tried to destroy our banner. MP Ceder was standing on the sidelines laughing at the fights, he didn't try to stop his militants. The fascists also shouted personal threats to several members of the local LSP/MAS branch (the Belgian CWI). We defended ourselves making sure nobody would get seriously hurt.

The Vlaams Blok once again showed what sort of party they are. Her in Dilbeek they are known for entering youth houses from time to time to intimidate immigrants and leftwing youth. The image of 'decent politicians' the Vlaams Blok tries to keep up is a lie.

We need to build a leftwing opposition to the present rightwing neo-liberal policies of the government. The recent scandal in Antwerp (where the council coalition including all traditional parties had to step down over a fraud scandal) shows we can not trust the traditional politicians. They make it possible that the Vlaams Blok can gain without doing anything. We need to offer a program that does offer an alternative to the policies of corruption, privatisation,… That will be the only way to stop the Vlaams Blok.
